Home-Start Mid And West Suffolk First Charity Shop

Our grand opening made the papers!

Home-Start Mid & West Suffolk opened their first ever charity shop after operating in Mid Suffolk for 34 years which marks a turning point for the organisation after the loss of Suffolk County Council funding earlier this year.

The shop in Eye has already proved a real focal point in the community and with many supporters and residents attending the opening. The Mayor of Eye, Colin Ribchester, assisted by the Deputy Mayor, Harley Molesworth, officially opened the shop at 11am and we had a lively crowd arrive for the opening and a steady stream of customers throughout the day.

We were delighted that Beyond the Wall based within Thornham Walks were attending prior to starting a work experience project with us and even more delighted that they brought delicious homemade lemon drizzle cakes from their café project which is open daily at the walled garden.

The start-up of the shop has been funded by a grant from the Four Acre Trust. We are also especially grateful to the many people who gave their time for free in their spare time to decorate, fit and prepare the shop. Many hours were given generously and we have received much support and encouragement from the local community.

The organisation continues to support families through inclusive groups, home visiting volunteers and events. Volunteers are always in demand for the service and we provide a thorough induction with a wide range of ongoing training and opportunities to meet up with other volunteers.

We are especially looking to recruit more shop volunteers at this time to cover the opening hours during the week and Saturday mornings.
